Overcoming Imposter Syndrome with John Mollura

Overcoming Imposter Syndrome with John Mollura

mindset podcast Nov 07, 2023

Today, I want to dive into the powerful topic of overcoming Imposter Syndrome with our special guest, John Mollura.

Imposter Syndrome is something that affects so many people, regardless of their accomplishments. John encourages us to take stock of our achievements and reminds us that no one is immune to feeling like a fraud. In fact, high achievers often feel its weight the most.

During our conversation, John shared a personal story about his experience with Imposter Syndrome. He recounted a moment on stage where he was about to receive a letter of commendation. Suddenly, fear gripped him, making him believe that his success was undeserved and that he would be exposed as a fraud.

But John didn't let Imposter Syndrome define him. He found solace in the concept of "quiet confidence" that he learned through his martial arts training. He stressed the importance of carrying oneself with quiet confidence, rather than seeking external validation or boasting.

Accepting compliments is another skill that John highlighted. It's crucial to learn to accept them graciously, rather than deflecting or downplaying them. We explored how responding to compliments in a skeptical or dismissive way can reinforce our Imposter Syndrome and make the person giving the compliment feel invalidated.

John shared a technique that he uses to combat Imposter Syndrome called "creating your archive of awesome." By documenting our past achievements and celebrating them, we can combat the negative self-talk that often accompanies Imposter Syndrome. It's all about reframing our challenges in a positive light and recognizing that every win, no matter how small, is worth acknowledging.

In addition to our conversation, John also announced a new service called "CFO on demand." This service offers accessible support in understanding financial statements and preparing for tax season. You can find more information on their website at thecfoonddemand.com.

Remember, overcoming Imposter Syndrome is a journey, and it takes time and consistent effort. But taking action, surrounding ourselves with inspiring individuals, and reframing our mindset can make a significant difference in our lives.

I hope this episode resonates with you as much as it did with me. Let's keep pushing forward and embracing our unique talents and accomplishments. We are all capable of greatness!
